School Day Photo Tour

What may happen when students and teachers attend the Advance One Room School for a day?

Here's a look at what you may see.

Before an official school day begins, the teacher leads a tour around the schoolhouse,
pointing out the building's unique attributes and histories.

Girls dress in skirts, shawls and bonnets. The
teacher is also dressed in the long dress, hat, and shawl
of the period.

The teacher shows a student how the bell was rung.
But the teacher uses a handbell today.

At the sound of the bell, students line up, single file,
to the left side of the front door.

Then, one by one, they greet the teacher.
Boys bow and girls curtsey before
walking inside to begin the day.

The rest of the day is spent like any
other school day at Advance in 1878.
