Here's a look at what you may see.
Before an official school day begins, the teacher leads a tour around the schoolhouse, pointing out the building's unique attributes and histories. |
Girls dress in skirts, shawls and bonnets. The teacher is also dressed in the long dress, hat, and shawl of the period. |
The teacher shows a student how the bell was rung. But the teacher uses a handbell today. |
At the sound of the bell, students line up, single file, to the left side of the front door. |
Then, one by one, they greet the teacher. Boys bow and girls curtsey before walking inside to begin the day. |
The rest of the day is spent like any other school day at Advance in 1878. |
